Christmas isn't Just for Kids

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico, 20-27 December 2010 Fishing
Report from Picante Sportfishing.

Kids like fishing, too.

This week has been a slow week for Charters, but the boats that did go
out had some nice catches of Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, some Dorado
and Sierra Mackerel.

The week started out on the 20th with Captain "Nino" and mate "Chikis"
aboard the Picante Express showed the Jenkins Group where the Striped
Marlin were. Most of the Marlin were tight lipped, but with much work
they tempted 3 Striped Marlin to take the bait which when brought to the
boat were released.

The 21st saw Captains Pablo and David do a great job for the Elkins
Group. The found the marlin and released 2 Striped Marlin. Then for a
little variety our clients boated 6 Sierra and 6 Dorado.

Aboard the Salsa with Captain "Brinkos" and mate Hugo, the 22nd proved
to be a lucky day for the Ashton Party. The released a Striped Marlin
and boated 13 Yellowfin Tuna.

Some quiet time for the holidays was followed by Captains "Palin" and
David working hard on the 26th aboard the Picante Dream. They did a
great job releasing 3 Striped Marlin for the Branson Group.

With few boats going out for the week, the catches were 12 Striped
Marlin 7 Dorado, 27 Yellowfin Tuna, and 41 Sierra. With the high season
fast approaching the fish counts will be going up.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and the best in the coming New Year.

Cabo Tuna Fishing Heats Up Again

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico, 13-19 December 2010 Fishing
Report from Picante Sportfishing.

This week was a slow week for charters, but a pretty good week for the
folks that went out. And the good news is that the tuna bite is back on.

On the 13th the 45' Cabo Express, Picante 45, had a pretty good day
releasing 2 Striped Marlin.

A couple of days with no charters broke up the middle of the week. It
seems with the bad weather in the US and the holidays coming up not many
people are out fishing. On the 18th the 32' Cabo express, Picante
Express released a nice Striped Marlin. We have been experiencing the
marlin non bite. The captains are seeing lots of marlin, but are having
to work hard to get them to bite. But with the cooler water and bait
moving this way things should really start to pick up.

The boat of the week has to be our 35' Cabo express, Cisco. They had a
couple of great tuna days. On the 18, they boated 20 Yellowfin Tuna. And
on the 19th they boated 22 Yellowfin Tuna up to 50 lbs. Great Cabo
sportfishing.

Weekly fleet production was 3 Striped Marlin, 45 Yellowfin Tuna and 1
Sierra with few boats going out.

Frigates and Flags in December in Cabo

he Striped Marlin bite is still holding on, even with the warmer water
hanging around the southern end of Baja. The water has been in the high
70's F. and the Striped Marlin activity has slowed down a bit. There are
lots of fish around, but not many biters. But our captains have still
been finding the fish. And the Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado have been
cooperating nicely with our boats.

The week started out, on the 6th, with some good fishing onboard the
Picante, our 40' Tolleycraft, with Captain Emilio Arenas and mate
Fernando. The crew put the Fleming party on 3 Striped Marlin, which they
released, and 10 Yellowfin Tuna which were brought to the boat. Fleet
production for the day was 4 Striped Marlin, 3 Dorado, 21 Yellowfin
Tuna, and 6 Sierra.

The 7th was a good day for the Connor party aboard the 32' Cabo Express,
Picante Express. where Captain Antonio "Nino" Romero put the party on 3
Striped Marlin, 1 Dorado, and 4 Yellowfin Tuna. They were some happy
fisherman onboard that day.

Cabo Express, the Chaos, had a good day with 1 Striped Marlin, 2 Dorado,
and 1 Wahoo.

The 8th was a little slower day with counts of Salsa landing 8 Yellowfin
Tuna, the Picante Dream with 4 Yellowfin Tuna, and the Picantito I with
10 Roosterfish.

On the 9th the folks from Pentair group put in some good fishing time.
The warm water was still affecting the Striped Marlin bite, with only 1
Striper caught and released. That was on the Cisco and they also caught
2 Yellowfin Tuna. The surprise of the day was the estimated 350 pound
Black Marlin caught on the Chaos. And they also landed 3 Dorado. The
Picante brought in 16 Yellowfin Tuna.

And the Salsa caught some nice sized Yellowfin Tuna. Fleet total for the
day was 1 Black Marlin, 1 Striped Marlin, 20 Dorado, 35 Yellowfin Tuna,
4 Roosterfish, and 4 Sierra.

The 10th was a slow day with 2 boats catching 6 Yellowfin Tuna and 1
Yellowtail.

The 11th turned out to be an eatin' fish day. Only 2 Striped Marlin were
caught and released, and 33 Dorado, and 17 Yellowfin Tuna were boated.

So the weekly totals were: 1 Black Marlin, 12 Striped Marlin, 59 Dorado,
97 Yellowfin Tuna, 1 Wahoo, 14 Roosterfish, 10 Sierra and 1 Yellowtail.

And now with the water cooling off again the Striped Marlin should be
hitting the bait as they come down the Baja coast.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 7 December 2010. Cabo Fishing Report for the week of 29 November to 5 December 7, 2010 from Picante Sportfishing, www.picantesportfishing.com

It has been the week of the Yellowfin Tuna.

Firstly we would like to congratulate Mike Livingston from Sunland, California for his pending world record Yellowfin Tuna that he took onboard the Vagabond, a long range boat out of Point Loma, California. He landed his 405.2 pound Yellowfin in two 2 hours and 40 minutes, just below Magdalena Bay. And he did it with a rod that he had wrapped himself and had bought for $20. Just shows that the trick is to be at the right place at the right time.

Now to the Picante Sportfishing, www.picantesportfishing.com fishing report. The Picante fleet caught twice as many Yellowfin Tuna in the first five days of December than in the month of November. So to say it has been a good tuna week would be an understatement. Fishing in Cabo San Lucas is always good and is always changing.

Starting with the 29th of November, the Ramrod, with Captain Gilberto, put 10 Yellowfin Tuna, 5 Dorado and 1 Wahoo into the fish holds.

Also Mrs. and Mr. James Godbee spent their honeymoon with us on the Picante Expresso and were rewarded with 2 Striped Marlin and a grouper. They have allowed us to use their photos in our report and we wish them many happy years and thanks for the photos.

The 30th, with Captains Palin and David, fishing the 35’ Cabo Flybridge, Picante Dream, was a slow tuna day, but they did manage to release 2 Striped Marlin.

The 1st of December started the Yellowfin Tuna blitz. Three boats were in double digits for Yellowfin Tuna. The Picante Express, with Captain “Nino” at the helm, was the boat of the day.  They put the Pentair Corp. group onto some great Cabo fishing. They released 1 Striped Marlin and boated 12 Yellowfin Tuna.  The Picante Expresso with Captain “Lalo” was a close second with one Dorado and 13 Yellowfin Tuna. The third boat in double digits was the Picante Dream with 10 Yellowfin Tuna.  Fleet production for the day was 2 Striped Marlin, 1 Dorado, 4 Roosterfish and 47 Yellowfin Tuna.

December 2nd was another day for big Yellowfin Tuna numbers. With large groups of porpoise and the Yellowfin Tuna under them the fishing was hot. Two boats were in double digits while others were just under. The boats in double digits for Tuna were the Salsa, with Captain “Brincos’ at the helm managing to land 1 Dorado and 12 Yellowfin Tuna. Next in line was the Picante Express with Captain “Nino” and his catch of 1 Dorado and 10 Yellowfin Tuna. Not to be outdone, Captain Gilberto, aboard the 35’ Cabo, Listo, put the Tucan group onto 2 Striped Marlin which they released and 6 Yellowfin Tuna.

The Cisco with Captain “Mocho” put his clients on the fish. They caught one Striped Marlin and 6 Yellowfin Tuna.

Fleet production for the day was 3 Striped Marlin, 3 Dorado and 48 Yellowfin Tuna.

With few boats going out on the 3rd and the porpoise action slowing down, the Tuna Numbers were down. The boat of the day was the Picante Dream, with 2 Striped Marlin. Fleet production was 4 Striped Marlin, 17 Yellowfin Tuna and 1 Wahoo.

The 4th was another great day on the water here in Cabo. The Picante Dream with Captains “Palin” and David released 3 Striped Marlin. While they focused on marlin for their clients, other boats focused on the Yellowfin Tuna blitz. Again there were 2 boats in double digits; the Chaos, with 14 Yellowfin Tuna and the

Salsa and Captain “Brincos” bringing 12 Yellowfin Tuna to the boat. Daily fleet production was 6 Striped Marlin, 5 Dorado, and 46 Yellowfin Tuna.

On the 5th the fishing got tough and with only 3 boats going out, the Picante 45, with Captain Daniel and mate Pedro were boat of the day with 2 Striped Marlin and 2 Yellowfin Tuna. Total fleet production for the day was 2 Striped Marlin and 6 Yellowfin Tuna.

With the pending world d record giant Yellowfin Tuna of 405.2 pounds up near Magdalena Bay and our week’s catch of 21 Striped Marlin, 16 Dorado, 2 Wahoo, 4 Roosterfish, and 174 Yellowfin Tuna, we think it is safe to say it was a Big TUNA WEEK!

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 30 November 2010. Cabo Fishing Report for the week of 22-28 November from Picante Sportfishing.

Cabo fishing is still hot. And the fish of the week are Striped Marlin.
The Striped Marlin bite is still on. The weather has been pretty nice.
Air temperatures have been in the high 70's to low 80's. And the water
has been holding between 83 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Most of the
colder water is on the Pacific side and along with the cooler water the
baitfish are coming our way. Winds during the week have been kicking up
the Pacific side so a lot of the fishing has been on the Cortez side.
And after the full moon lull the fishing picked up. Some Picante
Sportfishing boat charters are having hot streaks of up to 6 Striped
Marlin. That is what Cabo fishing is all about.

The 22nd started the week with some great fishing for the 45' Cabo
yacht, Picante 45 with Captain Danny Carrera and mate Pedro putting the
Kimmelman party onto 5 Striped Marlin. Not only did they release their
marlin, they also boated a nice Dorado and a Wahoo for dinner.
Congratulations to the whole Kimmelman party.

November 23 was a good day for the Smith family aboard the 35' Cabo
flybridge, Picante Dream with Captain "Palin" Cesena and mate Ivan. They
released 3 Striped Marlin. It was also a good fishing day for the 31'
Express Cabo yacht, Picante Expresso, with Captain Eduardo "Lalo" Cesena
and mate Reuben, as they put their clients onto 12 Yellowfin Tuna.

The 24th was another day of the Marlin with 20 Marlin being released.
The top boats were the Picante Expresso with their clients in the
Neighbors party with 6 Striped Marlin, and the Picante Dream with 5
Striped Marlin.

On the 25th, with few boats out fishing, the top boat was the 32' Cabo
Express, Picante Express. Captain "Nino" and mate "Chikis" put their
clients onto 4 Striped Marlin that were brought to the boat, tagged and
released.

The 26th was another great marlin day. There were 18 Striped Marlin
caught, and the boat of the day was the 45' Cabo Express, Picante 45
with their release of 5 Striped Marlin for the Johnson party. Nice work
by Captain Danny Carrera and mate Pedro. They made their Cabo
sportfishing clients' day.

The 27th was the day for the Rising Sun with their catch of 10 Yellowfin
Tuna. And throw in a Dorado and you have a great day on the water in Cabo.

The two boats of note for the 28th were the Picante 45 with their 3
Striped Marlin released for the Mulholland family and the Perro Caliente
with their 10 Yellowfin Tuna day.

Overall it was a great week with 66 Striped Marlin, 33 Dorado, 57
Yellowfin Tuna and 1 Wahoo. And we are expecting the fishing to keep on
producing some nice catches of Striped Marlin and eatin' fish thru the
holidays. We'll watch and see if there are any surprises during the
holidays, with folks coming down to do some fishing in Cabo San Lucas.

Fishing Report for the week of 15 - 21 November

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 22 November 2010. Fishing Report for the week
of 15 - 21 November from Picante Sportfishing.

Again, Fishing in Cabo San Lucas this week has been another week of
superb Striped Marlin fishing. The numbers are high. Warmer water along
the Sea of Cortez mixing with the cooler water coming in from the
Pacific has created excellent chances at large numbers of Striped
Marlin. The cooler waters are bringing the baitfish down the coast on
their annual migration.

The week started off on the 15th with our Brazillian clients aboard the
Salsa with Captain "Brinkos" at the helm. He and mate Hugo put the
fishermen from down south onto some Cabo world class fishing. They
released 1 Blue Marlin and 5 Striped Marlin while boating 2 Dorado and a
Wahoo. Also on the 15th, the Picante Dream, with Captain "Palin" had a
great day releasing 4 Striped Marlin and boating 4 Dorado. Now that
makes for some great Cabo San Lucas fishing. Fleet production was 1 Blue
Marlin, 18 Striped Marlin, 14 Dorado, and 2 Wahoo.

The 16th was another great fishing day for the Barbon party. Again,
aboard the Picante Dream, they released 12 Striped Marlin and 1
Sailfish. Also, the Salsa was the other top boat releasing 2 Blue
Marlin. Fleet production for the day was 2 Blue Marlin, 21 Striped
Marlin, 1 Sailfish, 1 Yellowfin Tuna, and 1 Wahoo.

November 17th was a lucky day for the Rompe party aboard the Picante 45.
Their Cabo fishing charter didn't disappoint. They released 5 Striped
Marlin. Fleet production was 16 Striped Marlin, 1 Blue Marlin, 2 Dorado
and a Roosterfish.

On the 18th the Brito party, traveling from Brazil for the second
straight year, were rewarded for their travels with a 400 lb. Black
Marlin aboard the Cisco. They also released a nice Striped Marlin. Those
were some fish worth traveling for. Fleet production was 1 Black Marlin,
11 Striped Marlin, 3 Sailfish, 12 Dorado, and a Wahoo.

The 19th was a hot day for the Picante Express with El "Nino"
captaining. They released 10 Striped Marlin and boated 1 Dorado. Fishing
in Cabo just keeps getting better. Fleet production was 16 Striped
Marlin, and 2 Dorado.

The 20th was a slow day with only 2 boats going out and only one was a
full day charter. On board the Picante 29 8 Dorado were boated and 2
Striped Marlin were released. Fleet production was 2 Striped Marlin and
10 Dorado.

Finishing up the week was the 21st aboard the Listo with Captain
Gliberto. They released 5 Striped Marlin and boated 3 Dorado. Fleet
production was 10 Striped Marlin and 9 Dorado.

The our fishing charters, over the week, netted our clients 1 Black
Marlin, 4 Blue Marlin, 94 Striped Marlin, 4 Sailfish, 49 Dorado, 1
Yellowfin Tuna, 5 Wahoo and 1 Roosterfish. Come on down for some Cabo
San Lucas fishing while the Striped Marlin fishing is hot and enjoy our
sun and mild day and evening temperatures.

Striped Marlin Bite Still Going Strong in Cabo!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 8-14 Nov 2010 Fishing Report from Picante
Sportfishing

The Striped Marlin bite is still on big time here in Cabo. It looks like
Cabo fishing is coming back with vengeance. The winds out of the North
West are bringing in cooler water and the bait fish that associate with
those temperatures. That makes buffet time for the Striped Marlin. This
weeks numbers are much higher than last weeks especially with more
charters going out.

November 9th started the week off with a bang. Four boats our and 15
Striped Marlin to the boats. One was only a half day trip. Aboard the
35' Cabo Express, Salsa, John Henigin from Fishtalk Radio and a couple
of his friends joined Team Picante for a great day on the water. They
released 4 Striped Marlin and brought 4 Dorado to the boat. Visit
Fishtalk Radio online to find out more information about their fishing
reports.

The total for the day was 15 Striped Marlin and 14 Dorado.

Picante 45. They released 9 Striped Marlin. They were some happy fishermen.

and 6, yes 6 Roosterfish.The days catch was 25 Striped Marlin, 1
Sailfish, 5 Dorado, 1 Yellowfin Tuna and 6 Roosterfish.

The 11th was another big day with 39 Striped Marlin, 22 Dorado, 14
Yellowfin Tuna and a Wahoo.

Next was the 12th with 16 Striped Marlin, 3 Dorado and 1 Wahoo with four
boats going out. The boat of the day was the Picante 29, 29' Blackfin.

and a dorado.

team on Minerva with winnings totaling $63,200.00.

2010 Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament Day Two Results

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 5 Nov 2010 Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament Day 2 Results from Picante Sportfishing <http://www.picantesportfishing.com>

Day 2 results from the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot are in. The Cabo fishing has been great and has been the best in the history of the WON Tuna Jackpot. Following are the results from Day 2.

Boat #87, Reel and Deal, brought in a tuna of 208 pounds. It was another of those fairy tale stories. They were fishing near the Gordo Banks and were going to fish to the end. All the boats were leaving, but they figured they might as well stay out and fish to the end. Well at 3 PM an hour before lines out they got a hit and fought the fish for a couple of hours. It was a long battle, but when they got it to the boat they thought they might have a fish that could score them some money. So at 5PM they headed back to the harbor. They put the boat to the test and got back to the harbor near 5:45 and got the fish to the scales and bingo. It was the fish they hoped it would be. It weighed in at 208 pounds, the first and only fish to tip the scales at over 200 pounds. They topped the previous 192 pound top fish scored by Reel Quest. Do we see a pattern. Reel and Deal and Reel Quest. They were both Real lucky. Unfortunately for Reel Quest their big fish was topped by 16 pounds. That meant that Reel and Deal won the Jackpots in the $500, $1,000 and $2,000 categories. That totaled them $77,400. Not bad for a day's work. And they also scored the unofficial largest fish. The official prizes for the tournament will be announced at the awards banquet tomorrow night.

The next place money winners were on board the Minerva V. They scored big with their 158.3 pound fish. They were in both the $3,000 and $5,000 jackpots. That netted them a cool $63,200. Just goes to show that there is glory in the bigger fish, but if you aren't in the jackpots, there is only glory. Landing the 4th heaviest fish put them at the number two money winner.

Then, the Shambala, yesterday's winners in the $3,000 and $5,000 dollar jackpots, hit the money with their 8th place fish for the day. That fish netted them $16,000 in the $10,000 category. You have to enter the jackpots to win the money and they did again.

So as it stands, it looks like Reel and Deal will be the final winners with their 208 pound Yellowfin Tuna. Check back tomorrow for the official results and some pictures of the big fish.

And, in the optional Wahoo/Dorado Jackpot, Mucho Bueno, with their 56.8 pound Wahoo, took home $32,000.

2010 Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament Results Day 1

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 4 Nov 2010 Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament Results from Picante Sportfishing <http://www.picantesportfishing.com>

The results from the first day of the 2010 Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament are in. With water temperatures hovering about 82F and the winds brisk it was a tough day of fishing. All the boats are out there looking for the elusive 300 pounder. A couple of weeks ago a giant tuna was caught out off Gordo Banks. All the boats in the tournament are hoping to find the sibling of that 351 pound giant Yellowfin Tuna.

Something that big would be a sure winner. But for now only smaller fish are being taken. They are respectable fish, but not what everyone is hoping for. But with 118 teams there have been 12 fish taken over 100 lbs. so things are looking good and everyone is hoping for that big one.

Today winners were Afishonados with a very nice 180.0 pound Yellowfin Tuna that netted them $44,600.00 in optional jackpot winnings.

Second place went to KW's Karma, a 43' Cabo Flybridge Yacht in the Picante Sportfishing fleet, with an 167.1 pound Yellowfin Tuna and optional jackpots totaling $70,800.00 according the scoring boards.

Third place went to Shambala with a 133.1 pound Yellowfin, netting them $41,200.00 in optional jackpots.

The other big winner was Marea with a 34.8 pound Wahoo that brought in $32,000.00.

These are unofficial reports until the official announcements at the Saturday Awards Dinner.

Tune in tomorrow for updated reports.

25-31 October 2010 Cabo Fishing Reports

With the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot coming up people start thinking about
Cabo Tuna fishing. Well with good reason, because there have been some
big Yellowfin Tuna taken off the Gordo Banks. Our boats have been
feasting on the great Striped Marlin fishing on the Pacific side up near
the Golden Gate. After the Bisbee Black and Blue Torunament, the
captains started concentrating on Striped Marlin. Well, they have been
doing great. And a lot of Dorado. In the past week our Striped Marlin
count is 130 fish brought to the boat. Along with them there were 5
Black Marlin, 1 Blue Marlin and 8 Pacific Sailfish caught and released.
And, there were lots of fish that wouldn't take. So you can see the
numbers have been great.

And the Dorado numbers are good, too. 106 Dorado were taken along with 7
Wahoo. It is great Cabo fishing time.

But now all eyes turn to the Gordo Banks where the tuna fishing is the
hottest and the best chances for giant tuna are.

So good luck to all the fishermen.

It Was Like Christmas for the Team on the Rehab

26 Oct 2010 Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Fishing Report the Week of 18-25 October2010 from Picante Sportfishing http://www.picantesportfishing.com

Well the Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament, Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore Tournament and the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament are all finished. And coming up next week is the November 3-6 is the Los Cabos tuna Jackpot. But we still have some of our regular customer coming down to do some fine Cabo fishing. Besides the tournament Picante has been sending out a few private charters. The numbers for the week don’t reflect the actual fish numbers because the yachts chartered for the tournament were targeting Black and Blue Marlin only. But considering that, the fishing was pretty good. The flags have been flying.

Three of our fleet finished in the top 10. The 40’ Cabo Flybridge, Caliente brought in the first fish and ended up in 10th place. The KW Karma, a 43’ Cabo Express finished in 5th place and the Rehab, a 35’ Cabo Express finished up in 1st Place to the tune of $254,905 for their two Black Marlin with a total of 907 points. It was a great tournament! The first day was especially exciting with an 800 lb. Marlin brought to the scales about 10 minutes past closing. But the two big Black Marlin did the trick.

A short recap of the tournament numbers: 103 teams, 628 anglers, 74 Billfish, including 13 Black Marlin, 32 Blue Marlin, 28 Striped Marlin and 1 Sailfish. The overall billfish hook-up conversion rate was 88.10%. Pretty good catching, too.

Yesterday, the Striped Marlin fishing really heated up. Tune in next week to see how hot the fishing has been.

2010 Bisbee's Black and Blue Marlin Tournament Results and Winnings

23 Oct 2010 Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Fishing Report for the Bisbee Black and Blue Marlin Tournament from Picante Sportfishing http://www.picantesportfishing.com
There were lots of fish brought in to the scales and the final results are in and . It has been a very exciting and successful tournament.
The tournament started out on both a good and a bad note. Day one fish count was the highest number of Marlin brought to the scales in the 30 year history of the tournament. There were 10 big Marlin weighed during the day, three were big Blue Marlin and the rest big Black Marlin. It was a great day for the tournament.
Now, to the bad. Well it wasn’t really bad just a little bad luck. The first bit of disappointment was for Amanda Thompson aboard the Dog House, when her Blue Marlin tipped the scales at 297. That was under the minimum 300 lb. weight. She was penalized 31 points. It was a big disappointment for her. Then the whammy hit Great Escape as it took 5 ½ hours to land and boat a big Blue Marlin. They were rushing to get back in before the 9 PM dead line. Well, they didn’t make it. They were less than 10 minutes late, but a rule is a rule. But the biggest disappointment was when they weighed the fish. It tipped the scale at 800 lbs. That was one Big Blue Marlin!! Carl Riley and his team aboard Great Escape, a 40-foot Cabo, did their best, but the fish had become tail wrapped and died. That made it just a little too difficult for Carl to rush it in. So they missed being the tournament winners. That made the big Black Marlin, weighing 599 lbs. that Jose Almanza and Team Reelaxe landed the day 1 winner. John Stonecipher, fishing aboard Rehab, a 35-foot Cabo yacht and part of the Picante Sportfishing Fleet, was in  second with another Black Marlin at 560 pounds, followed by Buzz Colton (C-Bandit) with a 549 lb. Black Marlin. Total jackpots for the day totaled $539,155.00. The big winner for the day was C-Bandit with their 549 lb. Black Marlin. They had entered a couple of good jackpots which netted them $282,299.00.
Then along came day 2. Only 4 marlin were weighed. The Great Escape came to the scale first to get their first legal fish, a 430 lb. Blue Marlin brought in by angler, John Sellers. This time they were having some good luck. Then Dream Weaver angler, John Boratto, landed a Black Marlin of 484.0 lbs. And the third place fish was a 426 lb. Blue Marlin brought in by Chuck Grieger onboard Sporty Game. Again the daily jackpots totaled $539,155.00. Dreamweaver’s fish netted John Boratto, and his 10 Brothers Fishing Team, a cool $411,655.00. The Sporty Games’ Chuck Grieger and team picked up their pot to the tune of $127,500.00.
Day 3, the final chance to score big, had finally arrived. This is when John Stonecipher and his team aboard the Rehab changed tactics and scored. Most boats were fishing out on the Gordo Banks where the big marlin had been hanging out. Well, John, along with his lifelong buddy, Captain Mike Hennessy, from Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii, decided to fish closer to home. They went out about “3 miles off land’s end” in “maybe 80 fathoms,” according to John. Well it paid off as they landed a 347 lb Black Marlin. That put them in 1st place overall. Then at the end of the day, the team on the Fisherman brought in a marlin hoping to get in the money. They weighed their Black Marlin in at a disappointing 292 lbs. They were penalized 41 points and lost their chance for another top place finish. So John Stonecipher and his Rehab Team took home $129,455.00 for the day. A couple of the jackpots weren’t entered, so the jackpots rolled over to previous days. C-Bandit took home $282,200.00 in jackpot money. And Tiger Spirit took home $127,500.00.
There were lots of fish brought in to the scales and the final results are in and . It has been a very exciting and successful tournament. Now to the overall standings announced at the tournament banquet.
3rd place in the Release Division was Mobius with winnings of $7,278.13. 2nd place in the Release Division was Auriga with winnings of $13,100.63. And the 1st place winner in the Release Division was El Lobo, with prize money totaling $37,846.25.
Right as I am writing Wayne Bisbee is announcing the overall winners. Here they are, in 5th place, the KW Karma, from the Picante Sportfishing Fleet, with winnings of $6,180. 4th place is the team on the Dream Weaver with winnings totaling $430,237.50. 3rd place is C-Bandit, overall netting $614,612.50. 2nd place was the team from Reelaxe, whose total winnings were $176,530.

And the 1st place winner of the 2010 Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament is the Rehab, of the Picante Sportfishing fleet, consisting of John Stonecipher, John Stonecipher Jr., Captain Mike Hennessy, Bill Donahue, and Mike Meridith. With two Black Marlin totaling 907 points, their total cash winnings were $254,905.
Besides the prizes and great angling, we had some other firsts. This was the first year that there was mandatory use of non offset circle hooks with all natural baits. The circle hook requirement helps to alleviate the problem with gut hooking and thus fish can be released with little harm.
And this year the Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournaments, www.bisbees.com, partnered with Offshore Live Broadcasting, http://www.offshorelivebroadcasting.com , Picante Sportfishing, www.picantesportfishing.com, and Baja Cantina, http://www.bajacantina.com.mx/ to provide a technology first. Using satellite tracking technology and live video feeds will lead to the offshore Sportfishing fans being able to watch live video, just as it is being done in Auto and Motorcycle racing. Each boat is outfitted with a transponder for safety purposes and rule enforcement. The boat's position will be displayed on the fishing grid so family members and friends can follow the action. One boat, Team Baja Cantina/Picante, will also be carrying a cameraman. The action and excitement from the cockpit will be uplinked to a satellite and broadcast live over the internet. The scene at the scales will also be streaming live as fish are weighed. Click on direct links on bisbees.com or CatchStats.com to follow all the action. So this year has become another record setting year. Record numbers of fish, lots of winnings, totaling $1,933,190.00, and first time live broadcast streaming of a big game fishing tournament, the Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament.

Congratulations to all the fishermen and winners for making the tournament a success. And, of course, congratulation to the organizers of the Bisbee's Black and Blue Marlin Tournament for organizing another successful event.

3rd Day and Preliminary Results of 2010 Bisbee's Black and Blue Marlin Tournament

22 Oct 2010. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Bisbee's Black and Blue Marlin
Tournament Results by Picante Sportfishing, www.picantesportfishing.com

Here's a rehash of the days events. The first fish of the day was
brought in by Rehab, one of the Picante Fleet, just before noon. The
fish weighed in at 347 lbs. It was a Black Marlin and was caught by
angler, John Stonecipher. It was the second fish landed by John so he is
angler of the tournament. It was the only fish weighed early in the day.
But just before lines out, another boat reported a landed fish.

The next team was the Fisherman team fishing on Santana. They brought in
a small Black Marlin hoping that it was over 300. But it was another
heartbreaker. It was a 292 pound fish, the third heartbreak fish to hit
the scales. So they too were penalized. It was probably a hard decision,
but just a matter of a few pounds is hard to estimate.

So as it stands the unofficial cumulative results are as follows:

In team points

Rank Team Weight
1 Rehab 907.00
2 Reelaxe 599.00

Congratulations to Rehab from the Picante Fleet and especially to John
Stonecipher for being the winning angler. And also to the the rest of
the boats and anglers for a job well done. Also thanks to Baja Cantina
and Picante Sportfishing for putting together the first live feed from a
boat in the Bisbee's Black and Blue Marlin Tournament. And good work on
all the website results to the team at Bisbee.

2nd Day of Bisbee Still Going Strong

After yesterdays exciting beginning and ending, today was a little slow.
The first fish was brought in by Great Escape by angler, John Sellers.
They were the team that got in less than 10 minutes after scale closing
time with a 800 lb. fish that didn't qualify because it was late. This
time their fish was a Blue Marlin of 430 lbs.

Shortly afterwards the Maverick brought in a Blue Marlin of 320 lbs.
the angler was Robert Patton. So that left the Great Escape in good
shape for first place. Then a little after 5PM the Dream Weaver arrived
with a 484 lb. Black Marlin. John Boratto fought the fish for over 2
hours. And the big Black Marlin put them into first place for the day.

Then in came Sporty Game with a 425 lb. Blue Marlin landed by fisherman,
Chuck Grieger.

So standings, as of today, are

The second fish was a 431.00 lb. Black Marlin caught by angler, Ron

Michael "Buzz" Colton, aboard the C-Bandit.

That fish was followed by an even bigger Black Marlin of 560 lbs. The

And check out the Bisbee's website, http://www.bisbees.com/ for live GPS
tracking and live video streaming from the Picante, a 40 ft. Tolleycraft
that won the Bisbee's Black and Blue in 1994 with the largest Blue
Marlin, 993 lbs., caught in Bisbee's Black and Blue Marlin Tournament.

So what is the Picante Sportfishing story? It started out in the summer
of 1994 when Team Picante took the the 40' Tolleycraft, Picante, to Cabo
San Lucas and then decided to fish the Bisbee's Black and Blue Marlin
Tournament. And fish it Team Picante did. On the morning of the first
day they hooked a big Blue Marlin, estimated at over 500 lbs. But after
a short fight the fish came unbuttoned. Needless to say there were some
long faces on board the Picante that day. But, as luck would have it, in
about 30 minutes they had another bigger marlin on. Well they brought
this one to the boat and it was the biggest marlin any of them had seen.
This time they were ectatic. They knew they had a winner. So off to the
scales they went. After hauling the fish off the boat onto a trolley and
getting it to the weighing area there were looks of wonderment, because
that fish was the biggest marlin anyone there had seen. The got it up to
the scales and when the scales tipped up to 993 lbs. the crowd went
wild. As you can guess fish around 1000 lbs. aren't often caught during
the Bisbee Tournaments. So with the cash winnings and the winning of a
35 'Cabo, a business was born. And since that time Picante has won
$3,786,174.00 and become Cabo Yachts, Mexican Dealer. And the big Blue
Marlin still stands as the biggest Marlin caught during the Bisbee's
Black and Blue Marlin Tournament.

Now on to some new technology that is being used. Live GPS tracking and
live cameras at the scales and onboard the Picante, the 40 ft.
Tolleycraft, live streaming video of their fishing day. You can see what
it is like to troll for big marlin and what it is like to hopefully,
fight a giant marlin right on your computer. Here is a little about the
technology right from the Off Shore Live Broadcasting website,
http://www.offshorelivebroadcasting.com/.

"Virtually every other sport had been able to evolve into a mainstream
element of society for one primary reason—the capability to be televised
and/or internet broadcast in a live, play-by-play format. This was true
with the NFL when NFL Films™ introduced "real-time spectator
opportunities" outside of the stadium and brought them into the living
rooms of the world. The same is true for NASCAR.

The "non-spectator sport" barriers that have hindered the sport of
offshore tournament fishing for the past 50 years have now been
shattered. "Sportfishing is now able to create its own individual team
"heroes" who are corporately sponsored." Tournament organizers also have
the capability to step outside of the previously limited box with
regards to corporate sponsorships since million person-plus viewership
translates to heightened levels of corporate interest and involvement.

In 2010 Offshore Live Broadcasting is making its debut at the 30th
Anniversary of the Bisbee's Black & Bue Marlin Tournament in Cabo San
Lucas. What better place to launch this revolutionary advancement than
at the World's Richest Fishing Event! In 2011, contracts will be
available to great teams and tournaments world-wide."

Check back for more results tomorrow.

Cabo Oct 11-17 Fishing Report

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. 19 October 2010. Fishing Report by Picante Sportfishing, www.picantesportfishing.com

The fishing in Cabo has been great this last week. We have just finished two world class fishing tournaments - the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament and the Bisbee's Los Cabos Offshore Tournament. There have been some big marlin and some big tuna caught. Winning marlin have been between 466 and 713 pounds. Winning tuna have been up to 161.8 pounds. There are still lots of fish out there and starting tomorrow the teams in the Bisbee's Black and Blue Marlin Tournament will be fishing for their chance to be a big winner. Check back later in the weeks for the winners and their winnings.

In some non tournament fishing results, we had some big fish taken this week also. Tuna up to weights over 200 pounds and a Wahoo of over 80 pounds were taken.

On the 11th of October aboard the 35' Cabo Yacht, Cisco, a nice Blue Marlin was taken by the Hayes Party.

Then on the 12th onboard the Picantito III Rachel and Chris Donmencic caught a nice Dorado.

The 14th was a good fishing day. Aboard the 32' Cabo Yacht,Picante Express,  the Howell party caught a nice Wahoo.

Then on the 45' Cabo Express, Picante 45, a nice tuna was caught by the Team Picante group.
 Good work, Bill!!

The 15th, the Ison-Guess party brought another Wahoo to boat aboard the 35' Cabo Yacht,

The Picantito II  had another Dorado day on the 16th with some nice fish being landed by the Maddox family.

Again aboard the 45' Cabo Express, Picante 45, the Soper party boated a couple of nice Yellowfin Tuna with one being the biggest Tuna for the day.

On the 17th this nice Tuna aboard the 35' Cabo Yacht, Cisco  became part of the Nielsen pre-Bisbee celebration.
