Second Place Big Blue Marlin Takes the Big Jackpots to the Tune of over $1.1 Million

Last night was the big awards banquet. It took place right here in the marina right in front of Picantesportfishing.com’s office.  The winners were just what were expected from the daily totals.

And here is how it went; first place was Angler Luis Arballo and his team aboard Bad Medicine. Their big fish was a Blue Marlin of 409 pounds, which was caught the first day and their total winnings were $394,090.

The most interesting winners were Tiger Spirit team, because they were in all the big daily jackpots. Their 395 pound Blue Marlin made their 2^nd place winnings rocket to the sum of $1,162,842.50. Catching the biggest fish has its rewards, but being in the right jackpots can really pay off. They also won an offshore trip to Panama.

Third place went to Pegasus, part of the Picantesportfishing.com fleet, and Vicente Rangel. Their 329 pound Blue Marlin netted them $283,752.

Fourth place went to El Lobo and their 313 pound Blue Marlin weighed in on Friday. They took home a cool $259,745 in prize money.

In the release divisions the winners were Hammertime, $47,791; Big Time, $16,543 and third went to Reel Energy for $9,190.

Ending with a quote from Wayne Bisbee, tournament director, “… we are the big enchilada of sportfishing, We’re the World Series, Super Bowl, and Triple Crown all rolled into one wet and wild ride.”

Day three of the 2011 Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament has been another interesting fishing day. The first fish of the day was a 313 Blue Marlin brought in by the El Lobo. It was early in the day and the crowd wasn’t very big, but the crowd reaction was big as the fish tipped the scale at 13 pounds over the minimum. In this type of tournament where there are various jackpots a smallish fish may not win the tournament, but may score big in the jackpot. So everyone is hoping to get a fish weighed and then get out and catch another and maybe win the tournament with points as well as the various jackpots.

As it turned out the El Lobo fish was the big winner of the day. Another fish was brought to the scales by Bull Rider, but it only weighed in at 228 pounds.

As was expected there were more billfish caught today, but they just weren’t big enough. The fishing was good, but not for big fish. Tune in tomorrow for the final results. As it stands now the winner is Bad Medicine with 409 points, Tiger Spirit with 395 points, Pegasus, part of Picantesportfishing.com charter fleet, with 329 points and El Lobo with 313 points. After the final announcements tomorrow night we will know how the money will be distributed. It should be real interesting.

Day Two of the 2011 Bisbee Black and Blue Marlin Tournament Only Shows One Qualifying Big Marlin

Day two of the Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin tournament turned out to be a good fishing day. More Billfish were caught today than yesterday. Today the spread was 18 Blue Marlin, 19 Striped Marlin and 3 Sailfish. Water temperatures are still holding in the mid 80’s Fahrenheit. So the marlin fishing will stay good for the rest of the tournament. Fewer Sailfish are being caught, but that is probably because the boats are targeting the Blue and Black Marlin which are what this tournament is all about. The fishermen are fishing hard, but no one has hooked into that really big fish to take it all.

The fish of the day was on the Pegasus, part of Picantesportfishing.com’s charter fleet with a 329 pound Blue Marlin. That fish put them into 3^rd place overall. More tomorrow.

The Bisbee is traditionally a third day tournament, which means that more fish are usually brought to the scales on the final day. And that is what we expect. The fishermen are getting more of a feel on how to hook the big ones and tomorrow will probably produce some big fish and hopefully a winner.

It’s all over but the celebrating. And yesterday’s standings held the test and it is official now. Chupacabra and their 543 pound giant Blue Marlin are the first place winners with the biggest fish. Their first place team money amounted to $47,500. They also won the Days 1 through 3 Daily Jackpots and the Winner-Take-All Marlin Jackpot. That brought their winnings to a whopping $364,764.25. They had, what is called, a great tournament.

Angelina I’s 408 pound big Black Marlin held in at second place. Their Black Marlin won them $28,500 and they won the largest Black Marlin category for an additional $14,250 bringing their total winnings to $42,750. Two other marlin were brought to scale, but didn’t stand up to the 300 pound minimum.

First Place Billfish Release Category was won by Picantesportfishing’s own 45 foot Cabo Express yacht, Picante 45. They held the top place with 1100 points. $9,500 was their winning for release category. And they also took the Third Place Team winnings of $19,000 bringing their total winnings to $28,500.

 Following in Second Place Billfish Release Category was the team from Go Deeper with 1,000 points. And Third Place Billfish Release went to Miss Behavin’ with 1,000 points.

In the tuna category the results were real interesting. Lots of big tuna have been caught in the Cabo area this summer. And there will be plenty more. And some nice fish brought to the scales this tournament.

The first place winner was a giant Yellowfin Tuna of 240 pounds caught by the team on the Fisherman. The Second place team was onboard the Karma 3 with their 216 pound Yellowfin Tuna. Picantesportfishing’s long time friend Bob Manroe and his son Kyle along with Picante’s Captain Brincos were part of that team. Third place went to the 135 pound Yellowfin Tuna caught by the Zhao.

In the Wahoo division the first place winner was 39.3 pound Wahoo caught by the Wildcatter. The second place fish was a 27 pound Wahoo, again, brought in by the team on the Karma 3.

Red Rum weighed the tournament’s winning Dorado at 28.5-pounds, taking all three Daily Dorado Jackpots.

Ending with a quote from the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, “In all, the Cabo San Lucas 2011 tournament season started off with a an impressive showing, as the tourney fleet of 42 boats weighed a 543-pound blue marlin and 408-pound black marlin, and successfully presented video of 51 billfish caught and released — two black marlin, seven blue marlin, 16 striped marlin and 26 sailfish.”

 

Day Three of the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament Ends in Another Big Yellowfin Tuna Being Brought to the Scales.

Day three of the 2011 Los Cabos Billfish Tournament was another beautiful Cabo fishing day. It was sunny and the temperatures were in the low 90’s Fahrenheit with a slight breeze out of the north west. The humidity was in the high 60’s. The water temperatures were in the mid to high 80’s Fahrenheit and the moon is 92% full.

Day three of the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament was not as exciting as the last couple of days. Only one marlin, a Black Marlin was brought to the scales. It was landed by Bad Company and was hoped to be big enough to win the daily jackpot. When it hit the scales there was disappointment in the air as it only registered 276 pounds. It was short 24 pounds from winning the daily jackpot. Bad luck for the Bad Company team who had hoped to squeak by the minimum.

The daily winner in the Tuna division was a 135 pound Yellowfin Tuna caught by the Zhao. It looks like it will be the third place tuna, pending the announcement at tomorrow’s awards banquet.

The winning fish in the Wahoo division was a 39.3 pound fish caught by the Wild Carter. With all the focus being on the marlin, not many large gamefish were being caught except in the Yellowfin Tuna Division.
