Christmas isn't Just for Kids

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico, 20-27 December 2010 Fishing
Report from Picante Sportfishing.

Kids like fishing, too.

This week has been a slow week for Charters, but the boats that did go
out had some nice catches of Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, some Dorado
and Sierra Mackerel.

The week started out on the 20th with Captain "Nino" and mate "Chikis"
aboard the Picante Express showed the Jenkins Group where the Striped
Marlin were. Most of the Marlin were tight lipped, but with much work
they tempted 3 Striped Marlin to take the bait which when brought to the
boat were released.

The 21st saw Captains Pablo and David do a great job for the Elkins
Group. The found the marlin and released 2 Striped Marlin. Then for a
little variety our clients boated 6 Sierra and 6 Dorado.

Aboard the Salsa with Captain "Brinkos" and mate Hugo, the 22nd proved
to be a lucky day for the Ashton Party. The released a Striped Marlin
and boated 13 Yellowfin Tuna.

Some quiet time for the holidays was followed by Captains "Palin" and
David working hard on the 26th aboard the Picante Dream. They did a
great job releasing 3 Striped Marlin for the Branson Group.

With few boats going out for the week, the catches were 12 Striped
Marlin 7 Dorado, 27 Yellowfin Tuna, and 41 Sierra. With the high season
fast approaching the fish counts will be going up.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and the best in the coming New Year.

Cabo Tuna Fishing Heats Up Again

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico, 13-19 December 2010 Fishing
Report from Picante Sportfishing.

This week was a slow week for charters, but a pretty good week for the
folks that went out. And the good news is that the tuna bite is back on.

On the 13th the 45' Cabo Express, Picante 45, had a pretty good day
releasing 2 Striped Marlin.

A couple of days with no charters broke up the middle of the week. It
seems with the bad weather in the US and the holidays coming up not many
people are out fishing. On the 18th the 32' Cabo express, Picante
Express released a nice Striped Marlin. We have been experiencing the
marlin non bite. The captains are seeing lots of marlin, but are having
to work hard to get them to bite. But with the cooler water and bait
moving this way things should really start to pick up.

The boat of the week has to be our 35' Cabo express, Cisco. They had a
couple of great tuna days. On the 18, they boated 20 Yellowfin Tuna. And
on the 19th they boated 22 Yellowfin Tuna up to 50 lbs. Great Cabo
sportfishing.

Weekly fleet production was 3 Striped Marlin, 45 Yellowfin Tuna and 1
Sierra with few boats going out.

Frigates and Flags in December in Cabo

he Striped Marlin bite is still holding on, even with the warmer water
hanging around the southern end of Baja. The water has been in the high
70's F. and the Striped Marlin activity has slowed down a bit. There are
lots of fish around, but not many biters. But our captains have still
been finding the fish. And the Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado have been
cooperating nicely with our boats.

The week started out, on the 6th, with some good fishing onboard the
Picante, our 40' Tolleycraft, with Captain Emilio Arenas and mate
Fernando. The crew put the Fleming party on 3 Striped Marlin, which they
released, and 10 Yellowfin Tuna which were brought to the boat. Fleet
production for the day was 4 Striped Marlin, 3 Dorado, 21 Yellowfin
Tuna, and 6 Sierra.

The 7th was a good day for the Connor party aboard the 32' Cabo Express,
Picante Express. where Captain Antonio "Nino" Romero put the party on 3
Striped Marlin, 1 Dorado, and 4 Yellowfin Tuna. They were some happy
fisherman onboard that day.

Cabo Express, the Chaos, had a good day with 1 Striped Marlin, 2 Dorado,
and 1 Wahoo.

The 8th was a little slower day with counts of Salsa landing 8 Yellowfin
Tuna, the Picante Dream with 4 Yellowfin Tuna, and the Picantito I with
10 Roosterfish.

On the 9th the folks from Pentair group put in some good fishing time.
The warm water was still affecting the Striped Marlin bite, with only 1
Striper caught and released. That was on the Cisco and they also caught
2 Yellowfin Tuna. The surprise of the day was the estimated 350 pound
Black Marlin caught on the Chaos. And they also landed 3 Dorado. The
Picante brought in 16 Yellowfin Tuna.

And the Salsa caught some nice sized Yellowfin Tuna. Fleet total for the
day was 1 Black Marlin, 1 Striped Marlin, 20 Dorado, 35 Yellowfin Tuna,
4 Roosterfish, and 4 Sierra.

The 10th was a slow day with 2 boats catching 6 Yellowfin Tuna and 1
Yellowtail.

The 11th turned out to be an eatin' fish day. Only 2 Striped Marlin were
caught and released, and 33 Dorado, and 17 Yellowfin Tuna were boated.

So the weekly totals were: 1 Black Marlin, 12 Striped Marlin, 59 Dorado,
97 Yellowfin Tuna, 1 Wahoo, 14 Roosterfish, 10 Sierra and 1 Yellowtail.

And now with the water cooling off again the Striped Marlin should be
hitting the bait as they come down the Baja coast.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 7 December 2010. Cabo Fishing Report for the week of 29 November to 5 December 7, 2010 from Picante Sportfishing, www.picantesportfishing.com

It has been the week of the Yellowfin Tuna.

Firstly we would like to congratulate Mike Livingston from Sunland, California for his pending world record Yellowfin Tuna that he took onboard the Vagabond, a long range boat out of Point Loma, California. He landed his 405.2 pound Yellowfin in two 2 hours and 40 minutes, just below Magdalena Bay. And he did it with a rod that he had wrapped himself and had bought for $20. Just shows that the trick is to be at the right place at the right time.

Now to the Picante Sportfishing, www.picantesportfishing.com fishing report. The Picante fleet caught twice as many Yellowfin Tuna in the first five days of December than in the month of November. So to say it has been a good tuna week would be an understatement. Fishing in Cabo San Lucas is always good and is always changing.

Starting with the 29th of November, the Ramrod, with Captain Gilberto, put 10 Yellowfin Tuna, 5 Dorado and 1 Wahoo into the fish holds.

Also Mrs. and Mr. James Godbee spent their honeymoon with us on the Picante Expresso and were rewarded with 2 Striped Marlin and a grouper. They have allowed us to use their photos in our report and we wish them many happy years and thanks for the photos.

The 30th, with Captains Palin and David, fishing the 35’ Cabo Flybridge, Picante Dream, was a slow tuna day, but they did manage to release 2 Striped Marlin.

The 1st of December started the Yellowfin Tuna blitz. Three boats were in double digits for Yellowfin Tuna. The Picante Express, with Captain “Nino” at the helm, was the boat of the day.  They put the Pentair Corp. group onto some great Cabo fishing. They released 1 Striped Marlin and boated 12 Yellowfin Tuna.  The Picante Expresso with Captain “Lalo” was a close second with one Dorado and 13 Yellowfin Tuna. The third boat in double digits was the Picante Dream with 10 Yellowfin Tuna.  Fleet production for the day was 2 Striped Marlin, 1 Dorado, 4 Roosterfish and 47 Yellowfin Tuna.

December 2nd was another day for big Yellowfin Tuna numbers. With large groups of porpoise and the Yellowfin Tuna under them the fishing was hot. Two boats were in double digits while others were just under. The boats in double digits for Tuna were the Salsa, with Captain “Brincos’ at the helm managing to land 1 Dorado and 12 Yellowfin Tuna. Next in line was the Picante Express with Captain “Nino” and his catch of 1 Dorado and 10 Yellowfin Tuna. Not to be outdone, Captain Gilberto, aboard the 35’ Cabo, Listo, put the Tucan group onto 2 Striped Marlin which they released and 6 Yellowfin Tuna.

The Cisco with Captain “Mocho” put his clients on the fish. They caught one Striped Marlin and 6 Yellowfin Tuna.

Fleet production for the day was 3 Striped Marlin, 3 Dorado and 48 Yellowfin Tuna.

With few boats going out on the 3rd and the porpoise action slowing down, the Tuna Numbers were down. The boat of the day was the Picante Dream, with 2 Striped Marlin. Fleet production was 4 Striped Marlin, 17 Yellowfin Tuna and 1 Wahoo.

The 4th was another great day on the water here in Cabo. The Picante Dream with Captains “Palin” and David released 3 Striped Marlin. While they focused on marlin for their clients, other boats focused on the Yellowfin Tuna blitz. Again there were 2 boats in double digits; the Chaos, with 14 Yellowfin Tuna and the

Salsa and Captain “Brincos” bringing 12 Yellowfin Tuna to the boat. Daily fleet production was 6 Striped Marlin, 5 Dorado, and 46 Yellowfin Tuna.

On the 5th the fishing got tough and with only 3 boats going out, the Picante 45, with Captain Daniel and mate Pedro were boat of the day with 2 Striped Marlin and 2 Yellowfin Tuna. Total fleet production for the day was 2 Striped Marlin and 6 Yellowfin Tuna.

With the pending world d record giant Yellowfin Tuna of 405.2 pounds up near Magdalena Bay and our week’s catch of 21 Striped Marlin, 16 Dorado, 2 Wahoo, 4 Roosterfish, and 174 Yellowfin Tuna, we think it is safe to say it was a Big TUNA WEEK!
