Fishing Report for the week of 1 to 6 March from Picante Sportfishing

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Fishing Report for the week of  1 to 6 March from Picante Sportfishing <http://www.picantesportfishing.com>

It’s a mixed bag type of week again. It started out with the Yellowfin Tuna bite. The first day of the week was a yellow day. The Yellowfin tuna were biting, the Sierra were biting and the Yellowtail were biting. Five boats and 47 fish. There was even a Mako shark caught. There were lots of happy fishermen that day

Then on the second the Cabo fishing heated up with a great Yellow Fin Tuna bite. Eleven boats landed a total of 49 Yellowfin Tuna. And throw in 4 Striped Marlin and it turned into another Cabo charter bonanza. That’s almost 5 fish per boat and that is with the water cooling off a bit.

On the third with the water cooling off more the fishing again shifted,  this time to Dorado. With those cold temperatures Dorado weren’t the expected fish, but they were out there and feeding. And throw in another Striped Marlin and it again was a decent Cabo fishing day. The captains have been seeing lots of Striped Marlin, but they haven’t always been willing to bite. The cold water is slowing down the bite. In other parts of the world they are lucky if a third of the boats get into the fish, but here in Cabo if all the boats aren’t into double digits we get a little disappointed. So even thru the slower times,  most of the boats are catching fish.

The fourth was again part of the yo yoing going on.  A few of the boats didn’t land fish, but overall it was good. Eleven boats landed 9 Striped Marlin, 12 Yellowfin Tuna and a Shark.

Few boats went out on the fifth, but still 5 Yellowfin Tuna and a couple of Striped Marlin were caught. The cold water was again close to shore and slowed down the bite. A lot of Striped Marlin were seen, but not too many biters.

The sixth brought the warmer water in closer to shore, but the winds kicked up. Five Striped Marlin and eight Yellowfin Tuna were brought to the boats. With the winds changing again this week, we are hoping the warmer water comes closer to shore and brings with it a good Striped Marlin bite.
