Marlin and Dorado Fishing are Holding Very Strong Just Prior to the Cabo Big Game Fishing Tournament Season.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. October, 2010. Cabo fishing is producing some excellent catches of Marlin, Dorado and Wahoo. The week started out with one of our regular tournament clients, Don Burts, and team fishing aboard the 45’ Cabo Express, Picante  45, with Captain Emilio and deckhand Pedro. They put the team onto the fish, releasing 3 Striped Marlin and a Pacific Sailfish. They also boated a nice Dorado for dinner. Fleet production for the day was 3 Striped Marlin, 1 Sailfish, 20 Dorado and 2 Yellowfin Tuna.
Ron Shand and his family spent the day of the 28 September onboard the 29’ Blackfin, Picante 29, with Captain Alex and deckhand “Charro.” They also had a world class day releasing a Blue Marlin and 3 Striped Marlin. Additionally, they landed a nice Dorado, which “Charro” made into some ceviche when they got back to the dock.
The week was shaping up pretty good, but dreams do come true and there IS a birthday fairy. And thus the big story for the week was Haley Bauer’s 21st birthday. When Greg and Pam Bauer asked their daughter, Haley, what she wanted for her 21st birthday, she had answered, “I want to go marlin fishing in Cabo San Lucas.” Well, what are parents to do when their daughter puts in her birthday request? Well, the answer was, yes. The family headed on down to Cabo where they booked a trip on Picante’s 35 Cabo, the Picante Dream. Well as it turned out Haley didn’t get all of her wish. They didn’t land any marlin that day. But were Haley, her boyfriend, Dustin, mother and father, Pam and Greg Bauer all disappointed. Nope! They didn’t get their marlin, but landed a couple of nice Dorado and two giant tuna. We are not talking about 100 pounders. They landed a giant of 190 pounds, weighed on Picante’s electronic scale, and the second weighed in at 150 pounds. That’s two whoppers. Sure they weren’t the marlin they were hoping for, but who can argue with over 150 pounds of prime sashimi, sushi, ceviche or just thick tuna steaks. They will be eating well for a long time. Maybe later this winter they will let us know their favorite ways to cook up their fish. So continuing happy birthday for Haley and her family and boyfriend as they will have memories of not just landing big fish, but enjoying the fish that they battled so hard for. Thanks to Captain Pablo “Palin” Cesena and mate Daniel for their assistance in making memories for the Bauer’s to cherish for a long time to come.

On the 1st and 2nd of October, there was a small local tournament in Cabo.  Congratulations to the top three yachts, Listo, Salsa and Cisco, all from the Picante fleet.  The Perro Caliente, which wasn’t in the tournament put Mr. Fernandez and his family on a Blue Marlin, a Striped Marlin and a Sailfish, along with boating 2 Dorado and a Wahoo. Now that is what Cabo fishing is all about. Total catch for the day was 8 billfish (3 Blues, 4 Stripers and 1 Sailfish), all released along with 40 Dorado and 3 Wahoo.

October 3rd was a day for the Tenini Family. Aboard the 35’ Flybridge Cabo, Picante Dream, they released a Blue Marlin and a Striped Marlin. Captain Pablo and deckhand Daniel put Mr. Tenini on his first Blue Marlin. Congratulations Mr. Tenini
A pretty good week all in all, with the total fleet catch at 8 Blue Marlin, 17 Striped Marlin, 6 Sailfish, 112 Dorado, 4 Yellowfin Tuna, and 8 Wahoo. Now, if the fishing will  hold up, we should have a great tournament season. Check back for tournament results.
